Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing gender representations in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has won awards for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the author and the director executive of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website that focuses on the role of women in pop stories of culture. Determined to challenge the assumptions that are associated with females in popular culture, she also tries in highlighting issues relating to harassment targeted at women and the other minorities of individuals in the internet world. The holder of a master's degree in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after talker. She has also delivered speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Inquiring about gender, feminism and identity from the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 when she was she was still at University. An ambitious woman planned to create a web-series which would explore the role of gender in video games. However, she found herself in the middle of a harassment online campaign. But the harassment did not discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit company that examines the ways women are represented in pop media narratives.
